Sheltered

If we’re going to talk about things, especially what’s inside – those things called feelings – I guess we should be open and somewhat honest about it. To say that we’re fully honest about what we “truly” feel would be hypocritical. There is no way. We battle ourselves internally each day to keep from spilling what we’re imagining in our own minds. Take for example breakups. We want to express our sorrow, defeat and bewilderment. Whether we’re on the receiving end or the giving – it matters not. We want to shout to all that past by our woes and anguishes. Display our tears. Our battle scars.

He hurt me. She broke my heart. He left. She lied.

We build walls around our hearts and our lives. We hide behind pseudonyms and become who we are not. We lie, hurt, steal and confess nothing. We become one thing to one person and to another – what they want us to be. Here – we don’t need to be sheltered, we are our own shelter. Nothing can harm … us.

Lies. We’re more vulnerable than we make on. We dive head first into making people love us and take no regrets in smear campaigning when things go wrong. Yet, there are those who do keep quiet. Those rare finds are hidden so deep, it’s hard to tell. How do you know when you find them? You don’t. There is no sign, no way of knowing. You just risk everything and when you do – you allow those walls to crumble, doors to unlock, and worlds to expand.

You allow yourself to be sheltered by trust.
