Little Girl Lost
How silly your mind
As it plays with silky strings,
Taken from yards of fabrics
Woven -
From years of diligent work
Born from your grandmother’s hands,
Only to be destroyed by the shallowness of your lips
Frothing at the mouth of pure tacky taste
And you -
Some Victorian myth
With your legs spread for the boys to see
A blink of white, naïve and innocent to boot,
Yet – dirty none the less
You had already taken Jimmy Harder in the back of Harlem’s Diner
Your school girl uniform laid out,
Like a wet man’s dream
As he grunted and groped above you,
You whistled Dixie over and over
Playing the little tune in your head
Like Grandmother used to do
When she wove the quilt that lies on your bed
Which you unraveled
From time and time again
Counting the markings of the bedpost –
Notch after notch after notch…
