There is a lot of benefits about Second Life. It’s a place where people can get together and get to know one another on such different levels, that it almost escapes the mind. I know that when I first began Second Life, that I had joined because of a couple friends moving over from The Sims Online to a new platform.
As years (or months for some) go by, we have met numerous people along the grid. We have grown relationships far and wide, from country to country. We’ve met and hung out in world and also some of us have ventured outside Second Life and gone into the Real. We take these friendships and relationships to heart.
In our community, we like to take care of those who are close to us. We all want what is best for them and at times, our friends and loves go through hard times and things happen that they cannot control. We came together for Gala Phoenix for One Voice and also Gospel Voom when his boy Archie got seriously injured. We even have our dear Elysium Hynes who had Unhinged for a dear friend of hers. We do this – designers and bloggers – because we care and because we want to take care of our friends.
I know that sometimes, people don’t agree and that people might think it’s an abuse of the system to use Second Life to raise awareness or to raise donations for personal causes, but it’s usually those who are close to the person in need that start the event or fundraiser. I have no personally issues with it, and think it’s a great way for the community to come together. It’s a personal choice on whether or not you as a person (designer or blogger) want to support when something comes along.
I’m writing this because a dear friend, Sway Dench, is in need and a group of designers and bloggers have come together for a small event to bring awareness.
